Contouring. It’s a big thing. Whether you’re a fresh faced newbie or pro-MUA, one false swipe can make or break your entire look. From the silent era shade of Marlene Dietrich, or full KKW glam, our step by step guide will have you contouring to perfection with tips on getting the best from contour makeup.
First things first… what is contouring? Contouring is creating the illusion of highlights and shadows using makeup to produce a more defined look. You can achieve a complete makeover by creating sharp cheekbones and a slimmer nose profile.
Before you even think about bossing it with the contour, you need to get that foundation down. Get the perfect complexion with your favourite foundation, cover any surprise zits and tired looking eyes with some concealer then set, set, set the face with some glowing baking powder!
Need some inspo? Why not try Artista’s Masterbalanced Dewy Matte Liquid foundation, with a touch of Max Factor’s Creme Puff Pressed Compact Powder to remove shiny spots, and Maybelline’s Instant Age Rewind Concealer – because who wouldn’t want to rewind the clock just a little bit?
The key to any fabulous contour is balance. Go ahead and grab your contour kit (we love the super pigmented NYX Love Contours All Palette) and let’s get sculpting. No contour kit? Why not try a nude eye shadow? We recommend choosing a shade 1-2 tones darker than your skin tone.
Using a fluffy brush, dip into your contour shade and pull along the hollows of your cheeks, the sides of the bridge of your nose, along the edges of your jawline and finally pop a little on your hairline. Then blend it out with a beauty sponge and say hello to your fiercest self! Need a little more help? Check out this cool guide.
Now it’s time to give those cheekbones the glow up they deserve! Grab a blinding highlighter and pull across both cheekbones – we also love to glisten the bridge and tip of our nose, with a sprinkle on the cupid’s bow. Out of highlighter? Dip into a glowing eyeshadow to bring on the shine. Feeling a little too blinding? Just take your beauty sponge and gently blend into your foundation for a softer look.
Finish the look off with a refreshing setting spray and et voila! You’re ready to take on anything.Embed from Getty Images
